JMW TAKE 6TH IN HUNGARY
After conflicting weather reports as to what would await the team at Hungaroring, it was hot and sunny for the fourth round of the Le Mans Series.
With three, one-hour long practice sessions on the Saturday, the team were hard at work discovering the intricacies of this new circuit to the series, which suited the car very well. In each session the JMW Motorsport Aston was proving very competitive. One thing was clear, the temperature was going to remain high and despite Sunday’s race going into the evening (4pm-10pm), heat would be a factor.
Sunday morning’s qualifying saw the team’s good form continue with Darren setting the 5th quickest time, to be the fastest of the non-Ferraris. With less than a second covering the top nine in the GT2 class, it looked set to be the class of full on action once again.
Darren started the race, and made quick work of cars in front of him, including a GT1! Further into Darren’s stint a front-end handling problem raised it’s head, which put the team on the back foot, as their pit stop strategy had to be altered. Throughout the rest of the race the team’s pace returned to top form and the car ran perfectly, securing 6th place. The race will be remembered as one of the odder events, with the top five places in the overall race going to LMP2 cars, and a myriad of bumps, scrapes and spins in the other classes adding to the fraught action.
The next and final round is home coming time for JMW Motorsport, as the 2010 Le Mans Series concludes at Silverstone on 11-12 September.
